You get a number of breads in the market but, nothing beats the once made at home. As the homemade breads can have healthy as well as fresh ingredients. Although there are several brands in the market that provide vegan breads, you cannot get the taste of the non-vegan variety of breads. But, with the following recipe you will definitely not miss out on having your favorite tasting bread.
In this vegan cookie event, I preferred preparing Irish bread instead of some other dessert is because I have seen some of my friends who couldn’t stay put to being vegan as they couldn’t have a vegan bread of their liking. And, I do not want some newly turned vegan to face the same issue and leave the path of veganism.
How to Prepare Vegan Irish Soda Bread
The original Irish soda bread that you find in the market is not vegan as it contains dairy ingredients like butter and buttermilk along with eggs some times. So, for having a vegan version of Irish soda bread, you have got to make it at home.
With the following yeast-free recipe, you can easily prepare the vegan Irish Soda brand at home within 30 minutes of time. You can have this Irish bread with soup or if you like to have it with some dessert, you can try it out with Bechamel sauce or Maple syrup. So, let’s have a look at the recipe.
- 5 Cups of All-Purpose Flour
- 1 & 3/4th Cups of Cruelty-free Milk (I have used soy milk here)
- 3/4th Cups of Wholegrain Rolled Oats
- A Pinch of Salt
- A Pinch of Baking Soda
- 2 Tbsp of Apple Cider Vinegar
Step 1: Preheat your oven at 430 Degrees Fahrenheit along with the parchment paper that is slightly greased
Step 2: Take a medium-sized bowl, add soy milk and apple cider vinegar, mix them up and keep it aside for 10 minutes, by this it turns thick and works like buttermilk
Step 3: Now, take a large bowl, add baking soda, 3 cups of all-purpose flour and salt and mix them up
Step 4: Prepare a well in the center of the dry mixture and pour in the mixture prepared in the step 2
Step 5: Now, mix all the ingredients properly, without forming any lumps in it
Step 6: Once the dough is prepared, knead it for a minute or 2 and then prepared small balls out of it. If the dough is too sticky, add some flour to it and make it soft but, the dough shouldn’t get dry, that need to be taken care of. Stickier dough leads to more elastic bread
Step 7: Now, transfer the dough balls into the baking tray and flatten it into a thin disc of around 3 cm height. Cut a deep cross on the top of the bread and pour some flour into it
Step 8: Let it bake for 20-30 minutes at around 430 Degrees Fahrenheit or till it turns out to be crusty from outside
Step 9: Now, transfer it to the cooling rack from 1 hour and then slice it up
You can then use the bread anytime. Keep it at the room temperature and it will last for around 4-5 days. This is a very nutritious recipe. For a nutritious dessert recipe, try out the vegan buckwheat pancake or the vegan date pudding too.
